"Put Play in Your Day" Event

Black Hawk County YMCA

The Black Hawk County YMCA celebrated with 1,700 other Y’s from across the country the 18th Annual Nation’s Largest Health Day for Children and Families on Apr. 18.

Over 50 kids lined up at 8:30 a.m. at the Y for free t-shirts. The “active” activities included a race around the track, obstacle courses, limbo and fruit and vegetable hopscotch, to name just a few. Bikes, balls and water bottles were door prizes given away every 15 minutes. Health fair vendors provided children and families with health-related demonstrations, service and educational information. Children learned fire safety sitting inside a real fire truck.

Raising healthy kids is every parent’s goal. Ali Nordgren, Wellness Director at the Family YMCA, explains what being healthy means:
• Growing up strong and fit
• Making connections and developing positive relationships with others
• Learning to be responsible and self-reliant and being able to make good decisions

Getting kids active is part of being healthy.  In addition, healthy snacks help combat childhood obesity -- bananas, soy nuts and granola bars.  Be healthy this summer!

The YMCA is committed to building strong kids, strong families and strong communities.
